The Magic of Glass Beads

Some things simply find you. You’re not looking for them, not even thinking about them - yet they’re there, calling you, and before you know it, you’re already entangled in them - both literally and figuratively.
That’s exactly what happened to me when I decided to create a Viking Age-inspired beaded necklace.

TRADITION

Sunwait - A modern tradition of waiting for the light

Sunwait finds its meaning amid the short winter days, the long evenings, and the colourless landscape. It is not a grand ritual, just the simple act of lighting one candle each week for six weeks, bringing a small but helpful rhythm into everyday life that makes it easier to get through the darker season. In Swedish it is called Väntljusstaken.

MEDITATION

Útiseta - The Practice of Sitting Out

Útiseta - literally "to sit out" - was one of the ancient spiritual practices of the Old Norse tradition. Its essence is that a person sits alone in nature with their senses open - often at night and in places regarded as sacred - in order to receive visions, come into contact with gods, spirits, or ancestors, and gain insight into their own fate (Ørlög).
